From Diesel to Sustainable
in a single Day

Entrepreneurs operating newer diesel trucks and looking to immediately cut their CO₂ emissions often turn to HVO100—the renewable alternative to diesel. This fuel is produced from renewable sources, such as used cooking oil.

Most Euro 5 and Euro 6 diesel trucks can switch to HVO100 straight away, with no need for engine modifications. In fact, HVO100 and diesel can be blended in the same tank and are often sold that way. For example, HVO20 contains 80 percent diesel.

In addition to offering up to 90 percent CO₂ reduction compared to conventional diesel, HVO100 also leads to a noticeable drop in local emissions, including particulate matter (–30%), NOx (–9%) and carbon monoxide (–24%). HVO100 is slightly more expensive than diesel.

Let's sum it up

Hence HVO100

  • Up to 90% CO₂ reduction: HVO100 is also gentler on the engine, runs slightly quieter (87 compared to 100 dB), and produces less vibration.

  • Widely available: Over 250 HVO100 stations in the Netherlands, including more than 30 operated by OG Clean Fuels.

  • Uncompromised driving range: Although HVO100 has a different origin, its range is equal to that of diesel.

  • Compatible with existing diesel engines: In most cases, you don’t need to modify your fleet to switch to HVO100.

  • Low emissions, but not zero: HVO100 is not fully emission-free, so it doesn’t grant access to zero-emission zones in city centres.

  • Not fully sustainable: HVO100 is partly produced from by-products such as palm oil, which is not always harvested sustainably.

  • Long-term availability uncertain: HVO100 is made from residual materials that are not renewable, which may limit its future supply.

FAQ about HVO100

These are questions we're frequently asked

What is HVO100?

HVO stands for Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil and is also known as biodiesel. It is made from used vegetable oils and waste residues. The number ‘100’ indicates that it is the pure form of HVO. Some suppliers also offer blends like HVO20, which consists of 80% diesel and 20% HVO. OG offers only the cleanest version: HVO100.

Who is HVO100 suitable for?

Suitable for all diesel engines—from vans to 44-ton trucks—and ideal for both national and international transport. HVO100 can be used in modern Euro 5 and Euro 6 diesel trucks without any modifications. The same applies to other vehicles, though we always recommend checking with your garage, as there may be exceptions.

What does the infrastructure for HVO100 look like abroad?

HVO100 is becoming increasingly available abroad. Since it is still a relatively new product, a complete overview of all HVO100 fueling stations across Europe is not yet available. If you are unable to find an HVO station nearby, it is also possible to refuel with diesel occasionally, as both fuels can be safely mixed in a single tank.

What is the range of HVO100?

The driving range of HVO100 is the same as that of diesel. While the origin of the fuel is different, its energy content is identical to that of conventional diesel.

Can my current vehicle drive on HVO100?

Modern diesel trucks with a Euro 5 or Euro 6 label are compatible with HVO100. Vans and passenger vehicles with the same classification can also run on HVO100. However, we strongly recommend consulting your garage beforehand, as there are some exceptions where HVO100 may not be suitable for the engine.
